About who needs care: My 85-year-old father-in-law is recovering from Covid which he contracted Saturday, June 15th. 2024. He is weak and wobbly on his feet but he can walk a little ways but slowly. He doesn't have any fever but he does cough on and off for prolonged times. He has a small, friendly dog that may need dog walking. Before he came down with Covid, he lived independently. He could drive, food shop, cook, and loved going out with his friends, etc... Now that he is recovering from Covid, he would need someone to help with food shopping, driving to doctors appointments, help prepare meals, and to be in the house while he showers in case he falls (he is 6'2" 180lbs) until he has fully recovered at which point he should be independent again. He is not looking for a friend or companion although he is an amiable man. He just wants someone to assist him with his chores, drive him to appointments, be around when he showers incase he slips, help around the house and possibly with his dog until he recovers. About the care needs: My father-in-law is looking for a pleasant, quiet, competent person who is available to help when needed. Although my father-in-law is an amiable person, he is not looking for chit-chat or a friend. Rather, he would like an assistant to help him with his daily chores. If he falls, he would need a strong, able person to help him on his feet. He hasn't been falling a lot, however, now that he has Covid, his energy level is low and he is weak. The aide is not expected to entertain him. It's possible there will not be much for the aide to do at times but wait until needed. On the other hand, ideally, the aide may be asked to do his laundry, cook, walk the dog if the aide is happy to do that, drive to appointments, food shop and do the dishes. The most important chores listed above is to drive him to doctor appointments and to be around if he takes a shower. If the aides do not want to do the other chores or are not permitted, that is ok but we need to know what they will and won't do in advance. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
