About who needs care: Help Wanted: Personal Assistant for Elderly Couple, Support with Early Dementia In search of a personal assistant to work 9-12 hours per week to support my parents, aged 71 and 73. My father has been diagnosed with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), which affects his memory, organization, and executive functioning. He is still mostly independent, but needs support with managing his schedule, daily tasks, technology, medications, and routines. My mother needs help with household tasks, administrative tasks, and errands. Schedule: 9 a.m. to 12 PM, 3x a week (which days of the week is flexible) Responsibilities: - Meet with my father each morning and go over a daily checklist, including the following: ensuring he has taken his medications, reviewing his calendar and tasks for the day, dealing with any issues that need urgent attention (for example, problems with his computer) - Make and confirm appointments for my father, and keep both a digital and paper version of his calendar up to date, including: doctors appointments, meetings, social engagements, personal trainer, tennis matches, etc. - Support with technology issues, including computer, phone, home entertainment systems, and email, as they arise. During work hours, be "on call" to answer phone calls from my father, if he has difficulty remembering something or needs help managing tasks. - Help my mother with household tasks and errands, including but not limited to: decluttering and organizing, picking up groceries and prescriptions, running errands, booking travel and appointments, event planning, and other administrative support. - Upon occasion, dropping off and picking up either or both of my parents by car. - Opportunities to make additional income cat-sitting and/or house sitting when my parents are away, if desired. About the care needs: Qualifications: - Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks. - Patient and kind; experience with elder care or memory care preferred, but not required. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Responds to communications promptly. - Fluent English speaker. - Legally permitted to work within the US. - Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Having your own car is not necessary. - Willing to complete a criminal background check. - Trustworthy and reliable. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
