About who needs care: My mom is 82 retired from the federal government. Recently lost her husband in December 2024 and she now lives with me and my son and nephew. They are graduating from HS in May 2025 and then off to college. Unfortunately I have to go back to work FT on May 17, 2025 everyday. She is pretty much independent however, some things that she used to do (prior to retirement, she can't anymore but she thinks she can. Such as remembering to take her medication daily, shower regularly, certain familiar items (fridge, microwave, cell phone, remote control) she gets confused between them. She gives me pushback when taking meds and showering on occasions unless she has appointments with the doctor or going to the grocery store with me. She likes to lay in the bed and watch TV. I'm trying to keep her active but she doesn't want to do crossroad puzzles or anything working her brain. As a retiree and supervisor for 35 years I am guessing that type of labor work has retired as well. She has moderate dementia so she forgets that I have say certain answers to ger questions she asked me prior or if I let her know we are going to her appointment/store, she will ask the questions in the car. (short term memory). She eats and drink on her own and will get her own food. If it's prepared then she can go to the kitchen and get it. About the care needs: Do you have a person from the islands maybe from Trinidad and Tobago or Guyana. (not limited) My mom is from Trinidad and my dad was from Guyana. Likes to cook, conversate, help her with daily activities (exercise and walks to keep her active, religious (Baptist), overall genuine nice person that my mom will grow to like. She is a very stay to herself person and doesn't want to feel like her indepence will be taking away. I will just need someone to administer her meds (watch her take them) and then lay her clothes out for showering. She can shower and dress herself. If the person likes to cook. she eats scrambles eggs, bacon crispy not burnt, orange juice and add some water to it, fruits, sprite, pancakes; turkey and cheese sandwiches etc. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
