My Sam has been living with my parents since he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia last fall. My mom, dad, and aunt have provided him so much care in the past year: he is on a very effective medication for his dementia symptoms, heis slowly learning to use a Cochlear implant, and he is going to physical therapy for various LBD symptoms (shuffling, hand dexterity, muscular atrophy) and speech therapy. My parents both work full-time: my dad works from home, but he does travel at times, and is in meetings or taking calls most of the day. He has been able to care for my grandpa while working, but the demands have increased including PT and Speech therapy. As they both work full-time, they are only able to do hearing exercises or PT exercises with my grandpa when they both finish their respective work days. My aunt has been taking him to most of his appointments, but she works as well and cares for her grandchildren too. My parents found a more balanced routine with my grandpa over the summer while my mom was out of school, but now that the school year is beginning I'm looking for a caretaker to provide help. We are seeking an experienced, reliable, patient caregiver with a sense of humor to spend time with Sam and help him complete his daily routine. Sam is quite intelligent and talkative when he's comfortable, loves watching golf and baseball (and the stocks channel), and loves to play cribbage and golf (which has been quite challenging this year, but he's played 8 times this season!). We are hoping someone can come in for 3 days a week for 3 hours (any three-hour window from 10 a.m. to 3pm) to walk with Sam, do his PT exercises, his speech/hearing exercises, help him make his lunch, and see to any other needs he might have that day, as well as coming one evening a week for 3 hours so my parents can have a night out together. Once a caretaker has become a part of Sam's routine, we may ask for assistance bringing Sam to certain routine/maintenance PT or speech therapy appointments.
