About who needs care: My mother-in-law had a brain infection in 2019 and has short term memory loss as a result as well as a few other issues including seizures. She was living on her own (with daily visits from my husband, her son) until October of 2023 when she was deemed unable to live alone. Most days she is able to dress herself and take care of herself for the most part. We prepare her meals for her before we leave for work on the days that we are both going into the office. She spends her days watching Hallmark movies when she is alone. When someone is home with her, we take her for walks at the mall, will play games with her, engage in conversation. Recently Karin took a fall and fractured her shoulder, so we need help on the days I have to work in Boston. This would entail reminding her not to use her arm when she gets up and moves around the house. About the care needs: Patience. I would say patience would be a key. Sometimes Karin is unable to complete a thought, and she loses her words, and you have to play a guessing game as to what she is trying to tell you. She is a sweet person, though, so that helps! Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
