About who needs care: My father is 84 years old and recently suffered a fractured hip. He also has ongoing back and ankle issues and is no longer able to walk. He will be returning home from an extended stay in physical rehab and will need assistance with ambulating, dressing, using the toilet, personal hygiene and occasional incontinence. He is also a cigarette smoker and may need to be taken outside via wheelchair to sit. He lives with my mother who also has some mobility issues and is unable to physically assist him but is still active and independent and can help with cooking and light housekeeping. I should also note that they do have a medium size dog, should be no trouble except that they are prone to excessive/random barking. My father is generally a nice man but he does get depressed and suffers from severe anxiety. He has been known to shout at times. My mother has a persistently warm and friendly personality. For the most part - my father is immobile and watches cooking shows or the news on television. I am able to offer some assistance but I work long hours and have two young dependent children. We are looking for someone that can check on him and assist him every day, 3-4 times a day. About the care needs: The ideal caregiver is someone (a regular group of individuals in rotating schedule) that is dependable, patient and trustworthy and has experience caring for elderly people in need of assistance. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
