Hands-on Care Needed For My Father In Frankfort

About who needs care: Dad is one year post-stroke. He is ambulatory with a walker. He bathes himself and feeds himself. He needs a bit of help getting dressed. Caregivers prepare meals for him, but he is fully capable of feeding himself. He has a Foley catheter to a leg bag during the day. The catheter is connected to a beside bag when he gets ready to go to sleep. The main reason we have around the clock caregivers is to walk beside him whenever his is moving from one location to another. He is a fall risk due to left leg weakness. He also has a history of vertigo, sciatica, and orthostatic hypotension, all of which contribute to his fall risk. He was still working 5 days a week, full time until he had the stroke. He still goes to the office 2 times per week. He is writing a book currently. He is quite easy to care for. Keeping him safe while he walks is the main thing we are looking for in a caregiver. About the care needs: Dad is quite independent and not one to talk at length. He doesn't care much for idle chit chat. He loves to read and will spend several hours reading books and legal journals. The current caregivers will sit in an adjoining room where they can see and hear him, but are not constantly in his space. He enjoys having conversations with the caregivers, but the caregivers need to be able to pick up on the cue when he wants to be left alone. Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
