About who needs care: 74-year-old female suffered cardiac arrest in the home in July 2022. She survived but has an anoxic brain injury that has mostly eliminated her short-term memory. Many days, she's merely forgetful or asks the same questions over and over. She often during the course of the day will get uneasy and feel like she needs to be somewhere. Because she has no short-term memory and no recognition that her perception isn't reality, she'll get stuck in loops of wanting to leave or becoming despondent. Occasionally, these episodes will balloon, and she'll get extremely agitated that she can't leave the house (the doors and windows are all locked because of previous escapes). 74-year-old husband is her primary caretaker but is overwhelmed, especially on days where the episodes are severe. Mid-to-late afternoon seems to be the witching hour, and she seems more stable if she's willing to nap during the day. Assistance is needed to help establish routines / encourage naps and to be available throughout the tougher hours of the day until she calms in the evening. When she's not having an issue, she's charming, funny, friendly, and warm. About the care needs: Patient with knowledge in how to care with patients / how to defuse or de-escalate problem afternoon times. Patient loves baseball (especially the cubs). She also loves cooking, but her lack of short-term memory means she definitely can't do it unsupervised. Keeping her husband company and being able to have conversations with someone at an adult level is helpful. Services needed include: companionship.
