About who needs care: My grandfather Larry is 85. He and his wife Sharon live with my mother who works Mondays through Fridays. He requires some supervision and assistance getting up and getting ready in the mornings Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to noon. He uses a walker and wheelchair to get around. He performs his ADL's mostly seated because he gets tired easily. A caretaker would be expected to help him get washed up, dressed, and serve him a prepared breakfast. He needs supervision while eating and drinks thickened liquids. The rest of the time the caretaker will be expected to assist him to and from the restroom, make sure he has water and serve a prepared snack, and provide supervision as he has some short term memory loss secondary to a stroke and some weakness when transferring and ambulating. In his free time he enjoys napping, westerns, reading the newspaper, and being with his family. About the care needs: You will need to be comfortable providing stand by to 1 assist with ADL's such as ambulatory, transferring, hygiene, and feeding. A CNA or caretaker background is helpful. Experience in memory care is not necessary but helpful. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
