About who needs care: Recently had knee replacement surgery and neck surgery for spinal stenosis. Currently sees a PT and Occupational therapist in house. The female person has difficulty using their hands for basic tasks like using the phone, holding a glass or pulling up underwear fully. The female person is working on lifting self up to standing position, yet requires assistance. The female person can walk with assistance of walker, yet needs someone to observe her, to prevent falling. The female person is in a neck brace for the neck 2 months, following surgery and based on doctors orders. The family person has medical grade equipment in the bathroom and bedroom to support her current level of health. The female person enjoys playing games on her computer but lack of hand mobility hinders that. The female person mainly engages with friends on the phone and watches tv game shows and black and white movies from the 70's and 80's. About the care needs: The ideal caregiver should be compassionate, be a good listener and encourager. Create a sense of routine for the female person to help give purpose and structure to the day. Within that structure would be bathing times, meal time, completion of at home PT exercises, including getting up and walking about. Caregiver should be comfortable assisting with bathroom activities (cleaning after washroom use, and daily hygiene. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
