About who needs care: 74yo husband has dementia and aphasia. Physically well, does well with attentive companion, enjoys books, movies, music, walks in good weather. Retired schoolteacher. Mornings, 8:30/9 a.m. - 12:30/1pm, are easy-going: already dressed, light breakfast, some activity. When left alone, his awareness diminishes, but engaged with another person, he is alert and happy. About the care needs: Upbeat, patient, experience with dementia. Willing to engage in conversations that, at times, may not make sense but reflecting back the tone (much the same as one would with a toddler learning to talk). Husband is very pleasant and really enjoys being with people. There are no specific specialized skills, just attentive when he's getting up from a chair (starting to be a bit unbalanced). Mornings he may be sleepy, so patience is needed. Services needed include: transportation, and companionship.
