About the job
About who needs care: J is a retired civil rights lawyer who had a stroke in February and has limited use of the left side of his body. He lives with his girlfriend. He is surrounded by loved ones, including his son and me, most of the time but needs someone experienced with transfers to help him get between his bed, wheelchair, and toilet in the morning and at bedtime. He is friendly and has a great sense of humor and is generally low maintenance other than transfers. We are looking for someone to stop by the apartment in Lakeview East for an hour or two during mornings and/or evenings. He and his girlfriend also spend some weekends at their lake house in Michigan and would welcome the opportunity to bring a helper along on those trips but this is not a criteria for the job. Cooking/cleaning is also welcome but not necessary. About the care needs: Someone local to Lakeview East will be a great fit. Enthusiasm and ability to get along with multiple family members is a plus. Cooking/cleaning is welcome but not necessary. Exact shift times and lengths can be flexible as his girlfriend is always around, often along with one of his sons, and most tasks requiring an additional aide occur within 1-hour spans surrounding wakeup and bedtime. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
