About who needs care: Kind British woman, age 92. She's mostly homebound due to an issue with her blood pressure, and a unique form of anemia. She is also recovering from a broken ankle due to a fall in the home. These issues cause fatigue and shortness of breath, particularly when standing or walking. She can walk a short distance with her walker and also has a wheelchair if needed. She is on hospice care who comes in 4 times a week to check her vitals, meds, etc. A Home health aide comes twice a week for bathing. About the care needs: My Mum is friendly and can be social sometimes. She does not have Alzheimer's, but her short-term memory is quite poor, as well as her hearing. She doesn't have hobbies anymore and sometimes sleeps 14 or more hours a day (including nighttime sleep). She likes to ask questions to make conversation and enjoys sharing stories from her past in London and stories about her family (she is one of 10 siblings). When she's awake, she watches British mystery series. She is very sweet and rarely gets grumpy. I would recommend a female caretaker who is physically strong and at least 30 years old. Our main concern is that she's a fall risk. Her blood pressure drops significantly when she stands up. She needs someone to walk alongside her, and if she passes out, is able to get her safely to the floor. If this happens, the caretaker should call Hospice, NOT call for an ambulance. Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
