About who needs care: Dementia, her abilities vary week by week. She at her worst needs a lot of assistance walking, getting to the toilet, sometimes needs to be fed, but sometimes feeds herself. She weighs approx 115. Currently my husband (her son) and I need help over night, she would like to get up multiple times a night to use the potty. It is becoming too much for us to manage. We have her in a hospital bed next to a commode. We have a guard rail on the bed which is not working out, she hates it, but with no rail she ends up on the floor before we can get to her. We also have a bed alarm and a call button which she does use. We can work with your schedule to some degree for overnight on both days and times. Mostly we need a break and to get some sleep a few days a week. We both work full time as well as take care of her in the evenings and overnight. We have a bedroom you can live in full time or stay in on your overnights. You can sleep during the shift, if you will get up with the alarm to assist. We also need a caregiver on Mondays 8-5 and Sundays 10-2 if you are interested in those times. About the care needs: Need to be strong enough to help her to the toilet, we can train in the best method, don't need to be able to fully carry her. Need to be patient and kind. We also ask that sometime during your shift you do at least one household chore, we will have a list to choose from. If it is a particularly rough day with her, the chore can be omitted that day. :) My husband and I live next door to her and have been sleeping at her house, we sort of live in both places right now. So assistance will always be close by overnight if it is needed. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
