About who needs care: My mom has dementia, arthritis, and a blood cancer condition (mialoma). She is currently on hospice care, so I already have a nurse stopping by once per week and a nurse's assistant bathing her 3 times per week. I just need a caring person to sit with my mom to keep her company for 5 hours per day, or 6 hours (if it's within my budget) to talk with her, give her snacks and change her adult underwear when needed. You can help her walk to the bathroom if she prefers that, and help her put on new adult underwear. Sometimes, I may need coverage during the weekend. I just need time to run errands etc.. so I need someone to sit with her to keep her company. She speaks French and English, but speaks more French to everyone, but thinks she is actually speaking in English. My mom likes music and sitting on the porch or deck to get some sun or to watch people passing by. About the care needs: A caregiver that has had experience with dementia patients would be extremely helpful. My mom has trouble walking, so the caregiver will need to help her walk to various areas of the house when possible while my mom is using her cane. Also, helping her sit or stand up when needed. My mom walks very slowly because she is always afraid of falling and is very unsteady. Therefore, a caregiver with lots of patience, a calm voice, who is comfortable helping with changing adult underwear when needed, and who does not get bored easly are the key qualities that I am looking for. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
