About the job
About who needs care: My dad has dementia. He is not able to carry a conversation or understand time, but he can listen to immediate direction and is willing to follow examples. He normally interacts in Korean, but when I speak to him in English, he can respond in English too. My dad gets tired quickly and will take naps several times a day. My mom is his primary caregiver, so when she is away, he does sometimes ask where she is. We have some regular activities, such as bocce, or a singing group, and while we try to take my dad to the gym, when he gets tired, he will fade and start getting confused about his surroundings, and will be worse about basic tasks and directions such as putting on shoes or leaving through a door. My dad asks to go to the bathroom frequently. I'm not sure how much he actually needs to use the facilities, but he spends a lot of time inside. Sometimes when he's bored, he'll find things to take apart or remove, like toilet paper holders. And he will also wander sometimes, saying he needs to go home or go to work. About the care needs: We would like someone with experience in elder care, who is able to communicate despite language barriers - or if they speak Korean, that would be ideal. But a gentle, persistent personality would work best. My mom prefers a male caregiver, but I'm not sure if that's possible. We are okay with either. Services needed include: feeding, and bathing / dressing.
