About the job
About who needs care: Terminally ill lung cancer and COPD. He is very very thin and eats little. He is diabetic and takes oral medication for it and other medications, however, at this end stage disease he can eat whatever he wants to eat. He can be forgetful of taking his meds so prompting will be required to ensure they are taken. He uses a nebulizer and medication when he needs, and has oxygen available when needed. He has anxiety medication available for sleep or when having breathing issues. He can walk although he is unsteady and needs supervision. He enjoys a certain breakfast ( his request of fried or scrambled eggs, toast made in the oven, and grits sometimes), snacks during the day, and likes the idea of supper ( of his choosing) but does not eat much. His taste buds are being affected as time goes by. He likes to tell stories of his life as anticipated at end stage. His entire adult life has been on a night schedule and that continues to this day. Although, he does nap. He will need more evening and night care more than day at this time which is not available through hospice. I am his daughter and am with him for a couple to a few weeks at a time and must return to care for my mother on the East side of the state for a week or two. As his disease progresses he needs more care to ensure his safety in his home, food prep and offering, food shopping, light housework such as vacuuming, laundry, changing of linens, dishes etc. He is a smoker and he smokes inside his home. A lifeline device with pendant with fall detection is on its way for his safety. About the care needs: Dad was musician until age 50, after that career ended he worked in security until age 82. He was forced to retire at lung cancer diagnosis at age 82. He had his private pilot license and flew planes, wrote a book and self published it, built and repaired computers and much more. He has loved fishing his whole life, music( his eclectic taste), wordle online, FB, he watches a lot of tv. Frasier and comedians mostly. He is very low key and a laid back personality. Because he is nearing the end of his life he really needs someone here to keep eyes on him and help him daily living needs. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
