About who needs care: 72 years old with a new diagnosis of early stage dementia. Still fully lucid, but dealing with some memory problems and and mobility problems. Has a history of multiple falls due to vertigo and confusion especially in the dark. Currently using a walker and attending weekly physical and vesibular therapy. History of chronic pain and chronic fatigue, multiple car accidents, sleep apnea, hip replacement, worked in childcare for most of her life and elder care at the end of her career. She sees herself as a caretaker and has trouble accepting care from others. When she was mobile, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, attending craft fairs, watching bull-riding on tv, sewing, and being with family. Ideally, could use help getting ready to leave the house in the morning, and then accomplishing one or two errands per day. Some examples of important errands include doctor's appointments, hair or nails appointments, shopping trips, or meals at restaurants. She has a lot of distress from feeling trapped at home and lonely. Additionally, could use occasional help with household chores like dishes and surface clearing. About the care needs: would get along with someone friendly, patient, and kind, especially someone who likes children. caretaker should be able to help confirm that she's taking the right medications at the right times, using her sleep apnea machine, and using her walker. will sometimes hide symptoms or falls. She is afraid of confrontation and of making mistakes, so she't not always truthful when things are going wrong. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
