About who needs care: Blood cancer that disrupts energy and sometimes causes fainting Knee surgery for an infection that requires a brace. Cannot walk without it. Also uses a wheelchair and walker to get to and from. Wears diaper because he's currently living in a nursing home and they are understaffed, so they don't get to him as quickly as needed when he needs assistance to the bathroom. Dementia - short-term memory loss especially. Depression from being stuck at nursing home. We are trying to get him to Naples, FL for two weeks, since he and my MIL have a condo there. He is happier when he is in FL My MIL cannot assist him - he is too heavy. So they would need someone to live-in and help all day and overnight. If he falls or needs any assistance, my MIL would not be able to help. About the care needs: Patience - he can get grumpy. Someone who he can interact with, not just feel like a patient. He's typically pretty extroverted - loves being around people - which is why the nursing home is so hard on him. Interaction with someone he enjoys will be beneficial. Someone strong enough to lift him if he falls. Someone with experience with dementia to not only give him dignity, but coach my MIL on how to frame things and respond. Someone who can also support my MIL if she has questions about care and how to interact. The dementia is hard for her. Someone who can help him get out of the house (even if it's in his wheelchair) for walks and sunshine. Going out to dinner makes him really happy too, and they would pay for meals for the caregiver. Services needed include: transportation, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
