About who needs care: My 103-year-old grandmother is being cared for by my 84-year-old mother and she needs help. Mainly she needs someone to be there with my grandmother while my mom takes time for herself. My grandmother walks with a cane, but can still take care of her basic activities; getting in and out of bed, using the restroom, feeding herself. Shes bored and needs companionship other than my mother. Someone to play checkers with. Someone to drive her around and get some fresh air. Someone to help guide her through light exercise. A typical day for her now is, she gets up and dresses herself. Eats whatever breakfast my mom has fixed, then sits around all day watching westerns. After dinner my mom helps her bathe, she then changes for bed and goes to sleep. She needs more stimulation than that. Unfortunately at 84, my mom is dealing with her own issues so grandma is basically left to sit doing nothing all day. About the care needs: Someone who is calm a patient. At 103, she can still be a little spicy. No specialized skills that I can think of. No specific hobbies. The person will need to explore activities my grandmother might be interested in. Thats the whole point to get her mind engaged in something other than watching westerns. Outings to the park or zoo to give her something to look forward to. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
