About who needs care: My mother lives at Advanced Care Center, a nursing facility. I live in Texas and have no one to check on her from outside the facility. This would be an easy, flexible job where you can pick the two days a week and for several hours be my eyes and ears. Get to know the staff, make sure she is being taken care of, let me know what she may need, facilitate her calling relatives, general companionship.
About the care needs: My mother is an old school New Yorker, sarcastic, usually a spit fire but has become very sweet in her old age. She has issues with memory, is going through chemo again for lung cancer and I would like someone to life her spirits and spend time with her stimulating her. She is also legally blind, so any of the normal activities one would enjoy (TV, reading, crafts) are not possible for her to fully engage with. Someone nurturing, assertive enough to advocate without overreacting, familiar with nursing facilities, and someone responsible and communicative.
