About who needs care: Our parents, Bob, (83), Maureen (82) Bob: He shuffles when he walks and is urine incontinent (has pads he uses), depressed and not feeling like a "man,: This is an insult to his ego. He can care for himself, and attend to his ADLs, but due to his depression, we have to get on him to get a shower. He watches too much TV and has pretty much given up, except for caring for their dog, Jane (she is very sweet). Maureen surprised us all as well as her docs, as she had 2 respiratory arrests over the summer and she is still with us. She is incontinent at times but when reminded and helped to the bathroom she does better. She gets around with a walker. She has Vascular Dementia and her kidneys shut down over the past 7 months so she has dialysis 3x/week that mostly my sister takes her to, and my brother picks up. She loves coloring and used to love jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles, but struggles with the word games. She loves the Phillies and the Eagles. About the care needs: Good sense of humor, and doesn't mind a dog around, she is very sweet, however, they don't do much with her because my Dad can't walk her anymore, so they just let her out back. We try to walk her when we can. No special skills other than patience with my father. He just likes to sit around and watch the news which drives us all crazy.
