About who needs care: My dad was a completely independent 90-year-old man up until August 28, 2024. He was taken to the hospital due to unexplained stiffness and lethargy. After two weeks he was diagnosed with West Nile Virus with Encephalitis. He has made almost a 100% recovery, but still needs some help due to his strength and occasionally lapses in memory. Dad is a brilliant man having worked his whole life in politics and eventually journalism. He loves to chat with people, he loves playing the piano. He loves his family especially his grandchildren. Our greatest concerns right now are getting him up and down the steps and ready for the day. My mom does live in the home with him, however she is 78 and not strong enough to help dad in the event that he starts to fall. So our ideal day would be someone arriving in the morning and helping him get showered and dressed for the day and then downstairs. Once downstairs he could do anything! Go outside, sit with my mom in the kitchen, play the piano, etc. FInally, towards the end of the day we would like for someone to help him back up the steps and get ready for bed. When it comes to the bathroom, dad knows when he needs to go its a just a matter of getting their fast enough since he is so weak and the encephalitis delays his though process at times. Once in the bathroom he is independent About the care needs: All we ask is that the person is kind and patient with my dad. My dad is the sweetest man who understands the illness that took him down. He misses his independence and wants to return to being a healthy 91-year-old. It would be best if the person is looking forward to being a friend to my dad. He will want to get to know you and we hope youll want to get to know him. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
