About who needs care: My mother has Parkinsons. Very weak, difficulty with fine and gross motor skills. Low blood pressure, which can drop suddenly and cause falls. Needs help with meals, dressing, and toileting, and the housekeeping/cleaning related to those tasks. Would need help with breakfast, lunch, and early dinner. Would need help transferring from bed to sitting up for meals and to bathroom. She has difficulty swallowing and would need help cutting food into small bites and monitoring eating slowly, chewing, and taking regular small sips of water. My mother cares about her appearance and would need assistance with applying make-up and styling hair. Interests include literature, art, and music. About the care needs: The caregiver should be strong enough to assist with transferring (but my mother is petite). They should have an attention to detail and respect the way my mother likes to have things done and be comfortable taking directives to arrange things and do things the way my mother likes. They should be respectful, patient, and have a sense of humor. They should know how to heat up things in the microwave and maybe cook simple things on the stove, like eggs. They should be comfortable with toileting and bathing support and, again, be patient with my mother's way of doing things. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
