About who needs care: My mother has memory challenges. She lives with my father who is not bale to provide the care she needs. We have caretakers m-f from 9-12:00 and Saturday from 9-12:00. We have evening care from 8-10:00 Monday-Thursday. My parents are in a senior living facility in independent living. There are many engaging activities that my mother is not interested in attending. My father will not leave my mother for fear that she will fall. She can use a walker in her apartment and uses a wheelchair when she leaves. My mother is often incontinent at night. My father will help her get cleaned and change the bed. She needs a shower in the morning. In the morning my father gets breakfast for them and eats in the apartment. MY mothers caretaker will provide care for my mother until noon, which includes changing the bed, laundry and remaking the bed. She will shower my Mom and help her dress. This takes time because my Mom likes to choose her clothes. The caretaker leaves at noon and my father takes over. He makes her lunch and if he can convince my mother, will join one of the facilities activities. At 5:00 they go downstairs for happy hour and dinner at 6:15. They head back to their apartment at 7:15-7:30. My mother needs help changing into her pajamas and getting ready for bed. She enjoys the company of her caretaker and spend time just engaging. Her bedtime varies. About the care needs: My mother needs someone who is kind, uplifting, gentle, patient and caring. She needs help transferring from chair to standing or inot her wheelchair.
