About who needs care: Retired philosophy professor, has Parkinsons disease; probably stage 4. No cognitive impairment, but difficulty speaking. Uses a walker. Extremely intelligent and self-aware; not a fan of small talk. Needs help dressing, but still able to do some things himself. Needs some meal prep. Needs some help getting out of chairs. Prefers a lot of alone time, but someone has to be here in case something happens. I would like to be freer during the day and able to take some overnight trips, particularly a two-week trip this summer, so some overnight care will be needed. I am allergic to fragrances, and neither one of us likes the TV on during the day. He has a regular exercise program, meditates, and does online speech therapy. He reads a lot and gets and sends a lot of email. He has several regularly scheduled online meetings every week, and regular appointments with friends who come to the house. About the care needs: A calm, intelligent person who is compassionate and empathetic, and who doesn't talk too much (needlessly). Upper body strength for getting Brian up from chairs (or from the floor!).
