About who needs care: Alzheimer's and small vessel dementia. I would guess moderate stage 4, was still considered mild this past summer. Starting having trouble with timelines this past fall. Would forget how often or how long ago she last attended her tai chi class and other appointments. Can often sleep until 11 a.m. or so, but sometimes up before 9. Needs a push to get out the door, has excuses not to leave, but discusses how much she wants to do things. About the care needs: Someone kind, patient, with some good scaffolding skills: Listen to what she is saying, decipher where she is at with the memory, and level of understanding of what needs to be done, then reinforce that, and build up her memory, or timeline of events to help her understand why ... she has the doctor appointment today.... why she must follow up on her back pain... etc. etc. Willing to give her meds needed for her excuse not to get out (allergy meds, and encouragement to use saline spray OR 4 ibuprofen with encouragement to use hot & icy) Wait 30 - 60 minutes and get her to the doctor, or shopping - whatever is on her agenda for the day. She also needs help with dusting and some other light cleaning. And sometimes getting to the grocery store on a timely basis. Possibly to get her to go through her bills and pay them. Although I am somewhat quietly taking care of them every 2 months - until she finally agrees to allow them to be automatically paid online. Right now she can drive, but not to unfamiliar places - she still drives well - but eventually, fairly soon, she'll need help. Thank you! Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
