About who needs care: Looking for help with our very sweet 80+82 yo parents (married 60 years) who still live independently in their 2BR/3BA home within a 55+ have had their medical health decline this past year (congestive heart failure, hypertension, kidney disease, COPD, A-fib, bad knees and back so cannot do stairs very well anymore), some memory problems and misplace things easily, mobility issues (dad short of breath easily and uses a cane or walker), and both with several falls causing injuries recently. Dad watches sports, news, movies in his recliner most of the day and is involved in a neighborhood men's group 1-2 x month, likes to socialize but getting lonely and isolated recently. Loves to share stories of his past. Mom is very social, attends card club in the neighborhood 3+ x week and frequently won't sit down and rest until she's exhausted. She is getting burnt out caring for my elderly father. Both can toilet, dress, cook/feed and bathe themselves. Neither ready for assisted living quite yet but on a wait list for when it's needed. Possibly needing a live-in (finished basement not being used) or a daily check in for medication reminders, small errands if needed, occasional tidying up/dishes/load of laundry, rides to various medical appointments 1-2 times/week. My sister and I live nearby but both work FT and have some caregiver burnout due to all their recent health needs, medical appointments and falls. A bit stubborn with us as they age, takes some encouragement for them to accept help with their activities of daily living and upkeep of their home. Dad's memory is failing and he doesn't drive anymore but mom does. Would consider a reliable live-in or daily caregiver short-term, possibly long-term if it's the right match. Would consider a college student, nursing/medical student, etc or a mature adult with references needing a place to live or to just visit/assist regularly for about 1-4 hrs 4-7 days/week. About the care needs: Looking for a mature, kind, compassionate and patient adult with references to help my sister and I care for our elderly parents when we cannot be there daily. Some basic medical knowledge is a plus regarding their health conditions and medications, but can also be taught. Hoping to find a good match to assist our amazing but aging parents!
