About who needs care: Patient has Frontotemporal and Alzheimer's dementia. Former causes very limited speech, although patient understands everything that's said. Latter causes significant memory problems. Patient also has severe osteoarthritis (OA) with five artificial joints, some of which cause chronic pain. About the care needs: My wife requires a female caregiver. My wife's long-term care insurance company requires the caregiver to have a *medical* license (such as a CNA), even though this is an entirely non-medical caregiving job. Experience with dementia and incontinence is required. Services needed: Bathing (especially after fecal incontinence), personal grooming care, dressing, toileting/changing incontinence underwear, transferring, heating food in microwave. No feeding, housekeeping, cooking, or transportation are required.
