About who needs care: My father is under Hospice care, he has Dementia, & Liver Cancer. He is not aware he has cancer, so we don't mention it to him. He has been recently required to spend 99% time in his bed. We are looking for reprieve for our Mom who is his primary caregiver. Ideally we would like to provide her with a 6-8 hour day per week to spend with other family members or to relieve her of her daily duties. He enjoys talking and spending time chatting about different things. His short term memory has declined a lot. His long term memory still is pretty good, so we usually get him to talk about his younger days. We would prepare his meals, it will just require a reheat. He is on oxygen, and takes medication 2x a day. Recently he was transitioned to adult diapers and required to be changed in bed. Prior to this he was in adult pull ups, - although he thinks he can go to the restroom on his own, which recently was not a good situation and required a Lift Assist from our local fire department. If my Dad is kept company he is very compliant and will not give too much push back - Dementia has a way of really messing with what our minds tells us what we "think" we can do and what our body "can" do. About the care needs: Looking for a personality and person that has experience with dementia patients, my Dad can get in a "loop" and sometimes can be a challenge to get him to focus on a different subject. A Spanish speaking person would be good, BUT not necessary. My dad speaks English with no difficulties. My Dad is not a "joker" or some who "jokes' around - he can be serious. He is of Christian faith and enjoys talking about that as well. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
