About who needs care: My mother has Alzheimer's. She lives with her husband, and their connection is important, but after a back injury he is not physically strong enough to help her with the commode, or cooking or doing dishes without pain, much less catching her if she tips over or stumbles while taking her nightly walk to the kitchen to sit. She usually sleeps from around 10 PM-1 p.m. (plus naps) and spends most of her time in bed, though we would love for her to be up more often. And except from the rare early morning use of commode (usually before any shift starts), she is quiet sleeping in the morning; we imagine that that time could be used for the cooking and cleaning for the day. The day to day needs involve use of the commode, likely 2x daily changing and washing of soiled bedding (incontinence) in the washing machines (located on the same floor), 2-4x changing of underclothes, a breakfast around 1, dinner, fresh fruit snacks, drinks as needed/requested. Light exercise if possible, and bathing once weekly. As for hobbies, she enjoys newspaper reading and occasional conversation/ companionship. About the care needs: Some coaxing will likely be needed, though in our experience she is more stubborn with family members than with caregivers! She is probably most responsive to warm, friendly people. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
