About who needs care: My neighbor/friend is going blind and fears becoming housebound. I am researching on her behalf a caregiver who is empathetic to a woman going blind and when she is totally blind she will want to pay a kind person to take her for a long walk daily and shop lightly at food stores which is a nice walk from where my friend. For now she walks to Laurel Village daily on her own but she still has a little sight left. Shes trying to prepare for when she is blind. A day shift worker (4 hours?) might take her for the walk and shopping and help her out food away or help her prep lite cooking or dialing Door Dash. She orders food more than cooks. Shes trying to declutter her apartment and thats another thing a caregiver could help. I dont think shed need help bathing or dressing etc unless it just gave her a feeling of more safety to know another person was in the house while she took a shower. Hope this gives some idea of the needs. A walking companion is the key thing. About the care needs: A great outdoor walker (capable of 2-3 miles). A person who likes to chat. A person who believes in God and has some faith. A person who loves dogs. and if they had a small dog, the dog would be welcome. My friend lost her tiny companion Chihuahua last year and she wishes she still had a dog but she's afraid to go to Muttville and adopt a rescue dog if her vision deficit would put the dog in danger. She misses her dog a lot. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
