About the job
About who needs care: My wife has multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair bound, usually spending most of the day on her computer, controlling it with her voice via software. With a caregiver, though, she would be in her adjustable bed for the day. Hobbies/interests/routine: On her computer in the bedroom, she researches traveling to other countries, reads, watches a show on tv, and watches dog videos. During the school year, she does this during the day while I teach my online math classes. When she needs me, she calls for me. She has a couple of snacks and lunch during the day and goes down for a nap from around 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (or whenever she wakes up). At the end of the day, she comes out to the living room with me for dinner to watch part of a movie or show and some more dog animal videos. About the care needs: Personality: A personality that would be a good fit would be a female who is friendly but still focuses on my wife's needs and listens to her. She has a tendency to talk quite a bit about the things she is interested in, so being a good listener is paramount. Specialized skills: Knowing how to turn a person in a bed who can do little to help (except move her arms in a helpful position). Help a female to urinate while in bed or to help with related accidents (and possibly with bowel movements). Waterproof pad, washcloths, towels, and no-rinse soap would be available. Help with spoon-feeding meals would be needed, though not much prep would be needed, mostly heating something up or helping with her usual snacks, such as granola, nuts, blueberries, and raisins. Hobbies/interested: No specific ones are needed; however, my wife loves art, hearing about travels, and animals (though we have no pets ourselves). She would mostly want someone to watch some shows with and to converse with. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
