About who needs care: My mother just had a partial knee replacement and needs help with things like refilling her ice machine, warming up already prepared meals, and some possible light housekeeping tasks - doing laundry/dishes and keeping her apartment tidy while she recovers. She can only get up for 5 minutes every hour and should not carry anything heavy. She may also need some help with picking up a few things from the store. She can bathe herself and is otherwise perfectly mentally/physically fit. Some companionship and friendly conversation to keep her spirits up would also be wonderful, as she is quite lonely since she lives alone. About the care needs: It would be great to find a caregiver who is kind, capable and patient. My mother can get easily frustrated and sometimes be a bit grumpy. The ideal caregiver should be specialized in helping senior folks who are recovering from a very painful surgery. Any experience with pain management and physical therapy would be welcome. My mother is also receiving in-home visits from a physical therapist but encouraging her to do her exercises regularly and reminding her to get up hourly would be helpful. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
