About who needs care: Advanced Alzheimer's - My mom needs gentle step by step directions on everything. She no longer really remembers how to take care of herself from eating, to drinking, to needing to go to the bathroom, dressing, undressing, hygiene care. She used to LOVE to read romance novels by Danielle Steele. she no longer recognizes the letters or words. They used to play card games but doesn't recognize numbers either. She used to do large puzzles with my dad. Am would be first thing greet while still in bed, help get out of bed and take to bathroom. (uses depends underwear) Caregiver would need to facilitate in wiping/cleaning areas. There is a water cleaning feature on the main toilet to assist with cleaning. Then help with morning routine of face, teeth and dressing. My Mom is also on a strict celiac diet (no gluten) but eats everything else. Would need her main breakfast and dinner prepared. cleaned up including dishes. After breakfast would be administering her daily prescriptions and vitamins. Drinking water, bathroom reminders by saying okay Judi it's time to go potty and taking walks in the house or outside in backyard. evening would be preparing dinner and clean up. Bedtime routine of changing into jammies, and bedtime hygiene routine, bathroom and getting into bed. give her body shower 3x a week, and 1 x a week was hair or go to salon with her possibly. About the care needs: someone kind, that has gentle parenting skills, can patiently explain and understand many times without frustration. it's like having a 5-year-old. Be authoritative due to safety but not a bully or drill sergeant. Should have education, training or experience with Memory care patients in their 4th year of the disease. If nursing or CNA degree or in school would be a plus for giving medications. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
