About who needs care: Mom had a stroke 1 month ago. She is mobile with a walker but due to post polio syndrome and the stroke she is wobbly. Main symptom of the stroke is fluent aphasia. She is a former kindergarten teacher at a Christian school and she and my dad are very involved with their church. Having someone to talk with her, do flash cards or writing exercises and work together on household chores is what we are looking for. Therapy appointments are being scheduled a week out max and not consistently timed. However, I think late morning to early afternoon would generally be a good time for care. About the care needs: My mom has closer relationships with women than men. She is very kind and likes to please. A person with a very encouraging personality would be better than someone with a no nonsense one. She has traveled a fair amount in Europe and she is a quilter but that is a niche hobby. Most importantly would be someone who is comfortable with small, curious dogs that will want to lick or be petted by everyone who comes in. They also jump on your legs but they are 10 pounds so you hardly notice. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
