About who needs care: Intermediate Stage of Lewy Body Dementia. Has memory problems and balance problems, so has to be reminded to use his walker when walking but can still carry on a conversation. Well educated, interested in reading and talking about culture, economics, politics, architecture, etc. The care giver would start the day with 15-20 minutes of mild indoor exercises for him, followed by 10 or so minutes of rest, a 1-hour walk in the neighborhood or nearby park. Caretaker takes a lunch break while my husband and I have lunch. Then she puts him to nap from about 1:15 - 3:15 p.m. . During his nap, caretaker is in a nearby room doing a quiet activity of their own. When my husband wakes up, caregiver gives him pills that I've set out and keeps him company while he reads, talks, or engages in mind-activity like Sudoku until 4 p.m. when caretaker goes home.
About the care needs: The ideal personality would be someone who has interests in the world and can talk about them fluently. They need to be sufficiently outgoing to be interested in conversation. No specific hobbies needed other than to be responsible and able to engage my husband and keeping him alert
Services needed include: companionship.
