About who needs care: Nurse-caregiver sought for 79-y. o. woman with a neuromuscular disorder (weight: 80 lbs.). Person has limited movement of hands, torso, limbs, and limited speech output. She communicates using eyebrows, eyelids, pointing, and sometimes speaking. She is on a feeding tube and receives daily respiratory therapy. Because she is an aspiration risk, she can never be at less than 45-degree angle, even during diaper changes and dressing. Person has urinary incontinence, and uses a wicking catheter at night. She rarely has bowel incontinence and uses a commode. Nurse-caregiver would be responsible for ADLs, range of motion exercises, strength training, hygiene, administering health treatments (nebulizer, cough assist), maintaining tube feed, companionship, and ensuring mental wellbeing and physical safety. This person lives in an apartment that was formerly a board-and-care, with a roll-in shower, and grab bars throughout the unit. The apartment is on Ballena Bay, a protected area of the San Francisco Bay, and has lovely floor to ceiling views of the harbor and SF Bay. There is ample street parking out front or within 1-2 blocks of the unit. About the care needs: Personality should be patient and kind, as patient has difficulty communicating.
