About who needs care: Seeking a live-in caregiver to live with a 78-year-old widowed, white female who suffers from moderate dementia with prominent memory impairment, emotional lability, and diabetes. Client is feeling particularly isolated and lonely since loss of husband in 5/2023 and inability to drive since 10/2023. Looking for a mature, caring, calm, and patient individual who can try to bring a sense of meaning and purpose back into the life of someone with a complex psychosocial situation that is compounded by complicated grief, depression, and memory impairment. Applicants should converse easily and also intuitive enough to sense that alone time is desired, without being told to go away. At this time, the client makes her own bed, applies make-up every morning, and showers independently. She wants to maintain her independence as much as possible as her dementia progresses. Must be able to ensure client takes the medications as prescribed. Must be able to support client through episodes of emotional distress. Primary sources of distress include: loss of husband, plight of an adult son who is disabled due to mental illness and required to live in a group home in NJ (not able to move to AZ). About the care needs: The right candidate for this job must be an animal lover. There is one well-behaved, medium-sized 2-year-old doodle in the home. Looking for an energetic personality who would accompany Client on long walks with her dog, feed bread to the ducks at the nearby lake, stroll around an outdoors Market or Old Scottsdale, and bring client to grandson's soccer games. Client is a nature lover. Going out and looking for interesting rocks in the desert was once a favorite pastime. Going to Scottsdale Butterfly Wonderland or visiting with Client's close friend to help out with her own private tortoise sanctuary may be enjoyable outings. At the same time, with the progression of dementia, Client increasingly prefers the comfort of her own home. We are looking for someone who will make sure music is playing in the background, prepare healthy meals and snacks, and provide companionship as Client tends to her garden or reads the newspaper. Must be able to drive (driving record will be requested) and would consider traveling with client as needed. Does not need own vehicle (will have free use of Client's Lexus SUV). Possible travel may include a 2-hour drive from Scottsdale home to the Client's summer home in Prescott. A visit to Client's daughter and grandchildren in England could be arranged if client is felt to be well enough for such a trip. Salary range = $50,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience, as well as a supplemental Benefits Package. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
