Hands-on Care Needed For My Husband In Phoenix

About who needs care: My 73-year-old husband has limited use of his legs (spinal cord injury from 1970) and uses a wheelchair. Up until Jan. 30, he was completely self-sufficient and could perform his own transfers in and out of the wheelchair, onto the toilet, etc. On Jan. 30, he had surgery on the cervical area of his neck, which has resulted in some short-term but very painful nerve pain and weakness in his arms. At this time, he needs assistance, using a slide board and gait belt, to transfer from chair to toilet and back, to bed, etc. He is otherwise strong and fit (5'10", 145 lbs.). I have two needs: One is for someone to come in for 2-3 hours on Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 8:30 a.m. , just to give me a short break to get out and run errands. The second is that I need to travel out of town on March 28-29 for about 30 hours, and again on April 22 for about 14 hours. I would like someone to be here with my husband, help with transfers, toileting and maybe showering, and keep track of dispensing meds. He has all of his mental faculties, but can be forgetful about meds, and does not need supervision. About the care needs: Experience with paraplegic patients would be great. He would enjoy someone who would chat with him about current events. Otherwise, he keeps himself busy with computer stuff, crossword puzzles and a little TV. He can handle his breakfast and lunch needs. Simple dinner would be provided for the two days when I would be out of town. Male or female is OK. Someone mature is preferred. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
