About who needs care: My mother recently survived a stroke and is in a long-term acute care facility in Mesa. We are looking for someone to help her communicate, get her needs met, ensure she is well taken care of by the facility staff, and to provide a consistent line of communication on her care and progress to our family. She had her stroke 2 months ago and has been bedbound. She has been on a ventilator since her stroke, but has recently been weaned off. She is gaining back strength to her unaffected side and can often answer yes/no questions with head nods or thumbs up/down, can point to something she needs, and will try to write with a pen to communicate. Future goals will be for her to regain speech, strength, and movement in her limbs affected by the stroke.
About the care needs: We are interested in hiring an CNA to provide care, companionship, and advocacy. Hours are flexible but we would like 6-8 hours of coverage Monday-Friday.
Duties would include:
making sure she gets her medications on time
making sure she is repositioned every 2 hours by the staff
helping her to stretch her limbs every couple hours
making sure she is kept clean and dry by the staff
assessing her for pain and informing nurses if needed
suctioning secretions or requesting respiratory therapist if needed
talking with nurses and doctors about her issues and taking notes to provide family members with daily reports including:
nurse and doctor notes
blood pressure readings
blood counts
bedsores
respiratory, physical, occupational, and speech therapy progress
and other medical data provided by the staff.
