About who needs care: My aunt (70) is wheelchair-bound, and has a cerebellar condition that affects neuromotor function (can get around in the chair, but needs help in the bathroom and some other contexts). My uncle (80) has severely impaired vision and increasing issues with memory. Typical mobility for an 80-year-old. Both are highly intelligent, with a keen sense of humor and a deep-rooted love of flora, fauna, and the natural world. Have travelled all over the globe. Uncle is a retired (high-level) zoologist. Dry and witty. Enjoys gardening, and has kept and cared for an impressive and diverse array of animals over the years. Aunt is a lover of art, music, literature, and poetry. Also very witty. Lived in Paris for a time, speaks French. Loves and appreciates food from a range of cultures and culinary traditions. About the care needs: Ideally, someone with - a keen wit and a heavy dose of intellectual curiosity. - an interest in art/poetry/literature - an affinity for nature and animals (they have three cats, so mustn't be allergic, and a tortoise) - a love of food (who can cook) Must be able/willing to help someone in a wheelchair, with mobility needs (showering, hygiene, etc.). Must have some understanding of memory loss, and be able to deal with fluctuating memory/confusion. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
