About who needs care: My mother, Denise, just turned 69-years-old and unfortunately was also recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She currently lives at home with her husband, Jeff, who is healthy and cares for her. We are looking for someone with experience in memory care to relieve him one day a week and provide support to my mom and our family as we figure out this new normal. She is able to do most day-to-day things (with the exception of driving), and is a very social, active person who is struggling to accept and adapt to this new life stage. We would like to find someone to help build routines that the family can carry out and provide companionship for her as we navigate this diagnosis. Ideally we'd like to be able to retain this person for more days as her needs progress. Interests: She loves animals of all kinds (she has two cats that she adores!) enjoys being outside, playing board/card games and likes to chat. She finds coloring relaxing and also likes going for rides. Her and my stepdad (Jeff) are very active retirees and until this diagnosis traveled regularly and lived very fun and active lives. About the care needs: We'd like to welcome someone into our family that is kind, patient and has a good sense of humor. Ideally the caregiver we hire would be someone who enjoys chatting (she's a talker!) and wants to help my mom navigate this hard time with their experience and wisdom. We know routine is paramount in this disease so we are looking for someone reliable and consistent in their availability. We kindly request that the caregiver have experience in memory care and be open to sharing their knowledge with our family so we can all be the best support possible for my mom.
