About who needs care: Companion/Caregiver Needed for My Mother, Part-Time, In Our Avondale Home I have been living with my 84-year-old mother for the past four years after moving to Phoenix to care for her following her diagnosis of vascular dementia. Until recently, Ive been able to manage her care on my own, but Ive come to realize and her Doctors have also suggested that bringing in some extra help would benefit both my mother and meboth mentally and physically. We are looking for someone to come into our home in Avondale twice a week for four to five hours per day. Ideally, you would arrive between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM and be able to maintain a consistent schedule. My mother is at her best when she knows what to expect and sticks to a routine, so having set days and times would be very helpful. Im flexible on which days of the week you would like to show up. What Were Looking For: We need someone who can provide gentle reminders, guidance, and occasional assistance with her daily routines. Ideally, youd be able to split your time between light tasks that help care for my mother and provide stimulation and companionship for her. Below are some key responsibilities: Mobility Support: My mother uses a walker but often forgets to use it, so she needs occasional reminders. Medication & Meal Reminders: She needs help remembering to take her medication and to eat at appropriate times. While she can feed herself, I would like someone who can assist with light meal prep while theyre here. Basic Health Monitoring: Checking her blood pressure, blood oxygen, and pulse daily, recording it in a log, and notifying me of any changes or concerns. Hygiene Assistance: She is able to shower on her own, but Id like someone to oversee and ensure she showers at least once a week. Household Help: Changing and washing her bedding once every two weeks as well as some of her clothing. Additional Responsibilities: Meal Prep: It would be helpful if you could assist with meal prep for a few additional meals each week for when youre not here, in addition to preparing meals during your visit. Occasional Light Cleaning: In my mothers personal spaces, including her bathroom and bedroom area, as well as our kitchen. Maintaining a Tidy Home: Before you leave each day, I would like the home to be neat and tidy. This doesnt mean a full cleaning, but I want to ensure the space is well-kept and organized. Im not looking for someone to clean the house extensively, but Id appreciate it looking good. Additional Requirements: An up-to-date CPR certification is required. Formal training as a home health aide is a huge bonus. A clean driving record is essential for outings, such as going to the mall or running errands. If you have your own safe vehicle that is also a huge plus. Willingness to undergo a brief background check with fingerprints and provide recent references. Compensation Paid Weekly Pay will be commensurate with your level of experience and any relevant training or certifications you hold. If this sounds like something youd be interested in, Id love to chat and see if wed be a good fit. Please reach out, and we can set up a time to talk. Looking forward to hearing from you! About the care needs: Given her diagnosis of dementia experience, you have in working with people afflicted with this condition is a must. My mother has spent a great deal of her life traveling and exploring with my father before his unexpected passing. She is very friendly and can engage in conversations on a wide variety of topics. She remains somewhat sharp and interested in the world around her, though at times, she may struggle to find the right words to complete a thought. She is also very appreciative of any help she receives, no matter how small or large. Her gratitude shines through, and its something she always expresses. Living with us is our 3-year-old West Highland Terrier, Winston, who is very friendly, affectionate and playful.
