About who needs care: My aunt has the beginnings of dementia (I would consider it cognitive decline right now). She just had a heart attack this past weekend and had four stents inserted into her heart. She does not remember to take her daily meds, she struggles to remember to eat, and she also basically does not cook for herself. She likes to go to the Rec Center and walk each day (can't for another week), get books from the Library and read, watch TV (Fox News mostly!), and sometimes quilt. Before her heart attack, she was still driving and shopping on her own. Since coming home from the hospital two days ago, she is hesitant to be alone. This may wear off as she continues to heal from surgery and it may not. I'd like to try to keep her in her home as long as possible before having to move her to assisted living. About the care needs: She is normally very calm and kind, but she doesn't appreciate it when we come across bossy, so it's a challenge to guide her but try to help her make the decision herself because she struggles cognitively with some things. As caregivers, we repeat ourselves a lot and exercise lots of patience. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
