Seeking Part-time Senior Care Provider. About who needs care: Ideal day would start with a trip to a bookstore followed by a visit to a coffee shop for lattes and conversation. My father recently lost his wife of 53 years and moved from their long term house in Amherst, MA to be near his family (his daughters, grandchildren, and brother and sister). He is a retired History Professor, former mountain climber, and avid science fiction fan. health conditions include some physical and cognitive impairment from a massive stroke 8 years ago. He is stubbornly attached to being "independent" while at the same time needing many supports. The transition to living is proving difficult because he misses his old home and often feels very lonely and sad. With a full time job and two teenagers, I am not free to visit my father as often as he would like. I am looking for someone to be a regular companion for him, a familiar friendly face that he can count on seeing every day for the next couple months and then maybe 3 times a week after that. About the care needs: The ideal companion for my father would be a calm, intelligent female with interests in world travel and science fiction. It would be helpful if they also had training or experience in communicating with people showing early signs of dementia. Services needed include: transportation, and companionship.
