About who needs care: I have two grandparents, my grandfather is 97, and my grandma is 99. The one that needs care is mostly my grandfather, he broke his hip four months ago, is EXTREMELY hard of hearing, and is cognitively declining. However, he is an extreme gentleman, is respectful and understanding most of the time, served in WWII and Korea. He's currently bedridden and cant walk, moving him causes some pain in his knees, we clean his private parts by rolling him over, which he is very capable of doing. He likes watching the news, reading the newspaper, or telling stories. Ideally, he would get cleaned around 8:00AM, fed 2 eggs with toast for breakfast, continuously fed fruit and water till Lunch, then have a big lunch. About the care needs: I would say having a caregiver that is patient and empathetic is important. Sometimes he doesn't have a good time depending on if, for example, he's not hungry and doesn't want food, but we need to have him eat his meal, or if he needs to exercise but doesn't want too. I would want a caregiver that is a decent cook, is able to clean up after themselves when they do cook, knows how to clean private parts both front and back, and keep my grandparents entertained. I don't think I would need any specific hobbies? Maybe a caregiver that has some military connections, but as long as they are kind and human :) Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
