About who needs care: Both of my parents are in their mid 80s. Both of them have mobility issues, and my father has Alzheimer's. (Although he is perfectly coherent and is still able to recognize people, he cannot answer questions reliably and has poor safety awareness.) Both of them are sociable people who make friends easily. They have an apartment in a very capable assisted living community, but the assisted living staff can only do so much and we simply cannot go down there multiple times a week. About the care needs: The single most important thing we need is someone who can be on call when there are emergencies for which a family member cannot be available. The closest family members live 40 minutes away, and there's a limit to how many times we can leave our jobs in the middle of the day for unexpected "incidents". In addition to being on call, your responsibility would be to visit the apartment once a week and perform routine tasks beyond what the assisted living housekeeping staff do. Examples include: * Checking the refrigerator for spills that need to be cleaned up and expired food that needs to be thrown out * Checking for trash that needs to be emptied. * Watering the plants * Checking the walk-in closet for clothes piled on the floor and other possible trip hazards We have the apartment set up with a WebCam and perform video visits on a daily basis, so we would be able to coordinate with you during routine visits. We look forward to meeting you. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
