About who needs care: My wife is about to be released from a rehab facility in Renton because of the 100 day Medicare limit. Her initial issue was about 2+ months of being bedridden from a combination of dehydration, essentially starvation, and what we eventually determined was an acute UTI that became septic. Her sense of taste and hunger have both returned. I would feel a lot better if she could have stayed at the rehab facility for another month. She has some balance issues, and general weakness, especially in legs and arms, but can walk 30-60 feet with a walker before having to sit, and needs intermittent help with bathroom functions. Also has some memory issues. Will need help with bathing and some personal care, as well as companionship when I have to go out to Dr. appts in Seattle. I'm physically in decent shape for 75, but am in stage 4 kidney failure waiting for a transplant. Terry would like to get back into artwork, but hand eye coordination is an issue. Still in need of PT, but anticipate going to NW Physical Therapy. We are just getting started, so not certain what we will need for sure, how often, or for how long. About the care needs: Terry has a good sense of humor, so that would be a virtual necessity for the caregiver. As for skills, strong enough to help her get into and out of bed, and to and from the bathroom. Terry is 5'7" and weighs about 170 after losing 30+ lbs through her ordeal. She is not particularly political, but definitely leans liberal. She loves to decorate and collect unique items for her surroundings. For instance, we have 70+ unique santa's and another 60+ snowmen that are the basis for our Christmas decorating. She is also an accomplished, if not very prolific artist (sketching and watercolors) Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
