About who needs care: My sister is an ALS patient that can not really do anything for herself any longer. She can not turn over in bed, so needs help getting into bed at night and out of bed in the morning. Uses rollator to walk around house. Can not use her hands, so needs someone to give showers, wash her hair, brush her teeth, wipe her bottom, dress her, feed her. Once morning routine done, pretty much sits in recliner until lunch. After lunch, sits in recliner until supper. After supper, recliner until bed. Does have exercises that need to be done daily, as well as a breathing assist to help with diaphragm strength. This machine is usually on her while she watches TV . She has to be fed, as she has no use of her hands. Once she has been gotten up, she can maneuver, with assistance. About the care needs: Personality... sister (and brother-in-law/ cancer patient at this time) don't like chatty type people. Some small talk okay, but sister is content watching her TV. Must be strong enough to be able to get her up and down from chairs, lift chair, bed. She is 180#, but that is dead weight, since she can not really help. If they are tall enough and strong enough, that usually isn't a problem. Needs to be able to follow instructions. They have worked out a routine that seems to work for them, so would like to keep as close to their routine as possible. Their hobbies are (were) camping, fishing, hunting. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
